Primary and Secondary Sources - Contextual Studies

Research is when you find information or pictures based on your topic and use them to create your own ideas.
A source is where information or pictures originally came from, such as a website.
A primary source is information or pictures you have created yourself of have knowledge of yourself.
  • Something you have written yourself.
  • A photograph you have taken yourself.
  • A video you have recorded yourself.
  • A picture you have drawn yourself.
  • A design you have created yourself.
  • Your own diary.
  • A voice recording that you recorded yourself.
  • Information put into your own words.
A secondary source is information or pictures created or founded by somebody else.
  • A magazine article.
  • A book.
  • A video recorded by somebody else.
  • Somebody else's designs.
  • Somebody else's drawing.
  • A photo taken by somebody else.
  • Information written by another person.
  • An autobiography.
  • Interveiws.
  • Letters.
Primary sources are better when somebody wants to change something to make their own creation whereas secondary sources are better when somebody finds it difficult to make things their own.
